COURSE DESCRIPTION: Humanities is a course designed to delve into the branches of knowledge concerned with human thought and culture; essentially, it's a course about the things that make us "human."  Students in Humanities will engage in learning in eight different areas for the first semester:  language and literature, art appreciation and history, music appreciation and history, social science, science, speech, interview, and essay writing.  All the areas studied will be tied into one particular theme as based on the Academic Decathlon curriculum for the year.  Then, most of second semester, students will focus on the art of film and literature, studying the techniques used in these mediums to create meaning beyond the level of basic plot.  The curriculum for this course changes each year, so students interested in taking junior and senior years can do so.

HONORS RADIO BROADCASTING    14010

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Curie Youth Radio starts here.  This class is for students who like different kinds of writing and are also interested in sound.  In this class, you will learn to use a mini disk recorder and microphone, and you will learn digital audio production on computer.  We will work on mixing sound with poetry, personal stories, journalistic pieces, and other genres of your choice.  The pieces you create will be broadcast on Chicago radio stations.  This year-long elective requires a desire to work hard on your own writing, a willingness to experiment with sound, and a readiness to record outside the classroom.
