Curie High School is a career academy. Students will be required to complete a minimum of
26 credits. Because the Board of Education promotes basic education, you must expand your skills,
understanding, and knowledge in certain required areas. The Board�s philosophy maintains that study
in these areas is essential to enable you to make positive contributions to society. (Click here for a

ADDITIONAL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
HEALTH
You will complete the required unit in health in your PE I class.
DRIVER EDUCATION
You will complete the classroom phase of driver education in PE II.
CONSUMER EDUCATION (SB 977)
You meet this requirement by passing the consumer education unit within any course labeled
�fulfills consumer ed. requirement� or by passing the Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency
Test offered during the school year.
FEDERAL AND STATE CONSTITUTION EXAMINATIONS
(Public Law 195 Requirement)
You must pass an examination on the federal and state constitutions, the Declaration of
Independence, and the proper use and display of the American flag. You meet these requirements in
the U.S. History class.
SERVICE LEARNING
Students are required to complete 40 hours of service learning.

Minimum requirement for promotion from the Junior Academy to the Senior Academy.
- 11 units of credit
- TAP score of 8.8 in Reading and Mathematics
- Recommendation of high school advisory and principal
- Passing grade (minimum of 50%) on mandated Chicago Academic Standard Exams
- Fewer than 20 days of unexcused absence during each year including absence caused by out-of-school suspension
BILINGUAL/ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Students in their Transitional Bilingual Education Program/Transitional Program of Instruction (TBE/TPI)
must complete the same number of credits, as those required of the general students. These are students
who are preparing for transition into the general program; therefore, the classes may be in ESL, Sheltered
English, English or their home language.
First and second year ELL�s must meet all promotion policy criteria with the exception of the minimum
TAP requirements. Third-year ELL�s will be administered the TAP only for the purpose of establishing
baseline data and for determining their need for additional services.
STUDENTS WITH DISABLITIES
Students with disabilities are expected to master the general education curriculum to the
maximum extent appropriate. Decisions regarding a student�s need for instructional modifications,
accommodations, or supportive services must be made and documented at the Individual Education Plan
(IEP) meeting and provided to the student accordingly. The CPS promotion and graduation policy
criteria should be applied to students with disabilities, unless the IEP contains modifications to
these criteria.
