3. Demographics:

As of 09/30/06, Curie has a total enrollment of 3,018 students. Curie is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic high school.

4. Application Procedures:

Thirty percent of new students enroll in Curie from our mandatory attendance area. The rest apply through either the International Baccalaureate Program, the Performing and Fine Arts Program or the Vocational/Technical Program. Students applying for the Performing and Fine Arts Program are admitted through a lottery selection process. Students applying for the Vocational/Technical Program are selected by a faculty committee based on standardized test scores, grades, and area of career interest. Applicants for Curie�s International Baccalaureate Program must have stanines of seven or higher. Link to Application (.pdf)

5. School Spirit:

Curie's school colors are red, white, and blue. The school mascot is the condor, and the school's motto is "We strive for excellence."

6. School Rules:

Curie adheres to the Board of Education Uniform Discipline Code. Curie does not have uniforms, but does have a strict dress code. All students and faculty are required to wear picture ID cards at all times. All students are required to carry the official Curie Book Bag distributed to each student at the beginning of the school year. Freshmen and sophomores are on closed campus. Specific school rules apply to attendance, discipline, clothing, etc.

7. Education to Career Opportunities:

Curie is a career academy that places a strong emphasis on acquiring job skills, learning to work as a member of a team, and acquiring aspects of entrepreneurship.

Curie has a full-time Education to Career coordinator, Mr. Omar Vega, who is responsible for creating post-secondary career opportunities for all students. Mr. Vega currently manages several Project Excel Programs with Chicago area community colleges as well as various partnerships with diverse Chicago area businesses. Curie also offers cooperative work programs in Accounting Systems III, Data Processing Occupations, Home Economics Related Occupations, and Special Education Work Training.

8. Getting to School:

Curie High School is located at the corner of Archer and Pulaski and can be easily reached by city bus lines and the Orange Line (elevated train service).

8. Building Hours:
School hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. The building will be open to students at 7:30 am. and will remain open until 4:00 p.m. for those students involved in supervised activities. Students who are not involved in supervised activities must leave the building by 3:35. Students staying after 3:35 p.m. must be under the supervision of a staff member. Students involved in after-school activities are to take all books and personal belongings with them to the activity since interior security doors are locked daily at 3:30 p.m. Access to lockers will not be possible after security doors are closed, and students must exit from the part of the building in which the activity takes place.
