Failure to comply with the completion of the following service learning hours by May 1, 2005 will result in a demotion:
Service learning demotes need 40 service learning hours for promotion. Students who were erroneously placed into a service learning demote division will be changed on October 1, 2005 CPS Service Learning Web site: servicelearning.cps.k12.il.us Students must get approval before working with an organization that is not on our partner list. New Programs \ Partnerships Building with books - Club Sponsors: Yolanda Orta and Sofia Villafuerte Building with books(BwB) was founded to enhance education and empower youth in the U.S. to make a positive difference in their communities, while helping people of developing countries increase their self-reliance through education. In addition to planning and carrying out community service projects, students adopt a Sister Schoolhouse in a developing country and help villagers realize their dream of building a school Chicago Cares - Contact: Lexi Sikorowicz Lexi Sikorowicz is the Youth and Service Program Manager at chicago Cares. She will be providing various city-wide service learning opportunities for classes throughout the year. Services opportunity lists will be distributed as they are received. Club C.U.R.I.E. - Club Sponsors: Kim Booth and Maria Ovalle Club C.U.R.I.E.(Courage, Unity, Respect, Integrity, Equality) emphasizes service through building awareness and improving attitudes and behaviors toward individuals with disabilities. Project Lead - Sponsors: Kuendig - Contact Maria Ovalle for more info Project Lead plans to implement a youth service-learning project in partnership with the Cesar Chavez Foundation's Educating the Heart program and the Lt. Governor's Office. The goal of the program is to engage students attending high schools in low-income neighborhoods to combat academic and civic disengagement by developing civic education and community service-learning projects that will promote youth leadership, advocacy and thoughtful reflection. |
